What is your current role, and how long have you been in this position?

I’ve been with UAB Health System Information Services (HSIS) for 26 years, initially joining to build a web-based EHR known as Horizon. As for the Epic Journey project, I have two roles. I am the Epic Research Workgroup leader, tasked with helping facilitate the implementation of the research module. I am also the OnCore technical project manager, assisting that team in technical areas.

Can you briefly describe the goals and tasks of your Epic Workgroup?

I configure the Epic research module, implement the interfaces between OnCore and Epic, and am building a revised, integrated workflow for onboarding studies, enrolling patients, and billing research charges into Epic.

What is one accomplishment that you are especially proud of?

The development of Horizon, which was our ambulatory EHR until Cerner

Before your current role, what was your most unusual or interesting job?

I worked for a publishing company in New York City as a publicity assistant, and I got to attend many author tours and book launches. I also met a number of media folks, from both print and radio/TV, as part of arranging author interviews.

Why are you excited about our Epic Journey?

It will add capability and enhanced integration for the research teams, and it also will improve the management of research studies and patients by hopefully having a more streamlined process.

What is your favorite place you’ve visited or vacationed?

I can’t pick just one, but a few are the Grand Canyon, Mount Rainier, Florence (Italy), and Ireland.

What is the next place on your travel bucket list?

The Greek islands, hopefully next fall
