What is an Epic environment?

Epic environments are separate, independent instances of the Epic electronic health record software that allow for building, testing, and training on the system using simulated data without disrupting the current patient-facing system.

Epic environments

  • Content Review (CRE) – training environment for users to practice realistic workflow scenarios (specifically the day-in-the-life/readiness activities) and mimics your organization’s Epic build. It refreshes nightly and is built and maintained by your Epic training team. It’s used when organizations have opted for Epic Lead training.
    • Login notes – user training ID and password, generated by your training team based on your role
  • Guesthouse – Epic environment used for contracted vendors.
    • Login notes – use your UAB user ID and password, unless using Guesthouse CRE, then use your training login
  • Playground (PLY) – Epic foundation system environment used during Epic led classroom training to practice with exercises and patient reviews.
    • Login notes – use the training user ID and password from your Epic led classroom training
  • Production (PRD) – Real-life Epic. This will be used to access all information after go-live. All patient care, billing, and scheduling should take place here.
    • Login notes – use your UAB user ID and password
  • Read-only (RO) – A copy of Production (PRD) up to one minute ago. This environment can be used if there is unexpected downtime of PRD.
    • Login notes – use your UAB user ID and password
  • Support (SUP) – The support environment is a nightly copy down of PRD with real patient and user data. Used for login testing and shadow charting activities. Also used by analysts after go-live if needed for support.
    • Login notes – use your UAB user ID and password
  • Willow Ambulatory (WAM) – This accesses the Willow Ambulatory (outpatient pharmacy) module and environment.
    • Login notes – use your UAB user and password, unless you’re using WAM CRE, then use your training login
