As part of Epic wave 2 preparations, technical teams are visiting sites and schools across UAB Medicine throughout October to replace and update devices. This will include computers, monitors, printers, e-signature tablets, credit card readers, and Rover.
What to expect
- Your team should be ready at any point during October.
- We are not able to share in advance the exact date or time that your location will be visited.
- When it’s your turn, you’ll experience a brief pause in device availability – typically no more than a few hours – while equipment is switched out.
- Once your device is assessed, you’ll see a green, blue, or red sticker confirming its status. For more information on what each color means, please see the chart below.
What we need from you
- Please take a few minutes soon to clear personal items from your desk and monitor.
- Secure any notes, sticky notes, or other materials you want to keep. Please move these ahead of time, to help expedite the work.
- Watch for a follow-up confirmation once your location’s devices have been replaced.

What is happening?
Technical teams are replacing and testing equipment at each location ahead of the Epic wave 2 go-live.
When will this happen?
This work is happening throughout October, and your team should be ready at any point during the month. Exact visit dates cannot be shared in advance.
What should I do to prepare?
Clear personal items from your desk and monitor ahead of time. Secure and move any notes, sticky notes, or other materials you want to keep.
What happens during the actual swap?
You’ll experience a brief pause in device availability, typically no more than a few hours, while your equipment is switched out.
Will I lose access to my computer for the whole day?
No. The pause is expected to last no more than a few hours, not a full day, and the time needed will be less if the area is cleaned and prepared for the technical team visit.
What about personal belongings left on my desk?
Please move anything important ahead of time. Items left behind during the swap may be moved or possibly misplaced.
What do the sticker colors mean?
Once your device is assessed, you’ll see a new sticker confirming its status. Affected devices (denoted by the blue and/or red sticker) will be replaced before the February 2027 go-live. No further action on your part will be needed.

| Device is still operating on the legacy network – applies only to UAB Medical West and UAB Medicine Huntsville. This provides a clear visual identifier for devices not yet migrated to the UAB Medicine network. | |
| One or more items failed or could not be completed. This may include issues such as incorrect hostname, missing peripherals, or the inability to test due to other technical validation gaps that require follow-up. |
