What’s your current job role, and how long have you been in this position?

I’m the associate chief quality officer, and I’ve been in Quality and Patient Safety leadership roles at UAB Medicine since 2011.

Can you briefly describe the goals and tasks of your Epic Workgroup?

To provide personalized care to all patients. Understanding their race, ethnicity, language, sexual orientation, and gender identity is crucial. Our workgroup was tasked with ensuring that these variables are in Epic, so that patients can provide responses if they choose to.

What’s one accomplishment that you are especially proud of?

From a professional standpoint, I was recruited back to UAB Medicine in 2011 to develop and lead an Ambulatory Services Quality and Patient Safety Program, which was successfully achieved and continues to flourish.

Before your current role, what was your most unusual or interesting job?

Fortunately, my various roles/jobs have all been rewarding in their own way. Each has had interesting twists.

Why are you excited about our Epic Journey?

The unique features that Epic offers will enhance the ability to provide more efficient comprehensive care, with enhanced patient safety features. I love that we can pull external records from other health systems using Epic.

What’s your favorite place to visit or go on vacation?

All parts of Lebanon. A close second is Portugal.

What’s your favorite meal that you’ve had on a trip?

The prawns in Senegal, West Africa were the biggest, freshest, and best I have ever tasted!

What’s your favorite TV show or movie?

My favorite TV show is “Law & Order SVU”, and my favorite movie is “The Sound of Music”.
