
What is your current job, and how long have you been in this position?
I’m the associate chief nursing officer (ACNO) for UAB Medicine, and I’ve been in this position for 2.5 years.
Can you briefly describe the goals and tasks of your Epic Workgroup?
I serve as the lead for the Acute Nursing Operational Workgroup. The primary goals of the group are to:
- Provide expertise and insight on departmental workflows for Nursing Services
- Make decisions and validate foundational workflows
- Drive operational readiness activities
What’s one accomplishment that you are especially proud of?
Creating a team culture of inclusivity and belonging in my former role as senior director. Also, mentoring and developing other leaders.
Before working in your current role, what was your most unusual or interesting job?
I’ve worked at UAB Hospital for 34 years. Prior to my current role, I spent 10 years as the senior nursing director for the Medical Division. While it wasn’t unusual, it was always interesting. I was fortunate to build a solid leadership team and had the opportunity to meet some incredible people (patients under our care).
Why are you excited about our Epic Journey?
I’m excited about our journey to Epic because it will make workflows smoother and documentation easier for our nurses. That means more time with patients, better care, and an improved overall patient experience.
Where is your favorite place you have visited/gone on vacation?
Hawaii (all of the big islands; Kauai was my favorite)
