What is your current job role, and how long have you been in this position?
I am vice president of Community Health Services for UAB Medicine. I work with Primary Care and the community-based clinics. I have been in this role for about two years. Prior to this role, I worked with Primary Care only.
Can you briefly describe the goals and tasks of your Epic workgroup?
The Value-Based External Data & Analytics Workgroup leads the effort to build a strong infrastructure within Epic to better manage our patients with value-based metrics.
What is one accomplishment you are especially proud of?
Our workgroup opened lines of communication with all of our key payers to incorporate monthly patient rosters and claims data into Healthy Planet Epic module. We have all learned so much and are confident that the work going into this build will benefit our patients significantly.
Before your current role, what was your most unusual or interesting job?
Many years ago, I worked in medical records. Yes, paper medical records, with a large multispecialty practice. That experience gave me a strong understanding of our patient record and all the components to truly “tell the story” of each patient. Nothing has changed, except no more paper!
Why are you excited about our Epic Journey?
There are many reasons why I am excited about Epic. One of the biggest, in my view of UAB Medicine, is the ability to determine preventive care gaps and resolve those easily and quickly. All providers across our growing UAB Medicine family will now be able to better understand the value-based metrics for each payer and contribute to improving outcomes and the cost of care for our patients. Lots of work to build this, but totally worth it.
What is the next place on your travel bucket list?
Going to the Peter Anderson Arts & Crafts Festival in Ocean Springs, Miss. this fall
What do you do on a typical day off?
I like to take a long walk with my neighborhood walking group and then paddle kayak.
What is a fun fact that not many people know about you?
I am the first girl in three generations in my family. Needless to say, my grandmother spoiled me!
